Network Example: Let's say your Ning Network is all about Sports, and you and your members have uploaded a lot of Videos about different Sports. You can offer your members a quick way to Search for Videos, by specific sport - - just by adding sub-tabs with a simple Search Query. Sure, they can go to Videos and Search for themselves. But, this adds a little more professional feel to your Network, by adding the Search Tabs for them. This can be done via a drop-down menu, too. I'll add that tip later.
- Go to Videos.
- Below the title: All Videos, add a Search word (tag), and click your Search icon.
- This exercise will help you test "tags", to see what videos are returned by your Searches.
Shortcut, using the word soccer:
From your Browser Address line, enter: http://yoursite.ning.com/video/video/search?q=soccer
Now, let's say you would like to add 6 Search Tabs for 6 Sports Titles.
Be sure to test them all, to make sure your site has videos with your chosen search words (tags).
Let's create our example Search Tab, using the search word: soccer
- Go to Manage/Tab Manager
- First, let's create a Main Tab, for our Video Search sub-tabs.
- Click "Add New Tab"
- For your Tab Name, enter Sports Videos.
- Do not make this a sub-tab.
- Next to: Use Existing URL, enter: /video/video/
- This will take your members to the Main Video Page, for all videos.
- Save the Tab.
Now, let's add our example sub-tab.
- Go back to Manage/Tab Manager
- Click "Add New Tab"
- For your Tab Name, enter the name: Soccer Videos.
- Make this a sub-tab.
- Next to: Use Existing URL, enter: /video/video/search?q=soccer
- This will search for all videos that contain a tag for the word: soccer.
- Save the Tab.
Now, create your other sub-tabs, and you're done.
This will work very well if you have a lot of videos uploaded with good and appropriate tags. And another great way to use this same type scenario - is for Events.
