NC for Hire

Hi all,

Just a quick tip to get a more prominent New Message icon on your account tab like below

Just add and modify the following CSS:

.xj_messages_present {
     -moz-background-clip border ;
     -moz-background-origin padding ;
     -moz-background-size auto auto ;
     background-attachment scroll ;
     background-color transparent ;
     background-image url("https://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/11384284?profile=original") ;
     background-repeat no-repeat ;
     padding-bottom 3px ;
     padding-left 6px ;
     padding-right 21px ;
     padding-top 3px ;
}
Members often say they didn't see the new message (even though they get emailed etc) so I implemented this to try and encourage the messaging function.
Cheers
Mark

  • Awesome, just...awesome.

    Just out of curiosity, where is the image stored? On your network?

      yes, in a blog post somewhere, don't have file manager
  • Hi Mark,

    Thanks a lot for the tip. I took your idea one step farther and came up with the code to also flag friend requests. Here is the code that I added:

    .xj_count_friendRequestsReceived {

        -moz-background-clipborder;

        -moz-background-originpadding;
        -moz-background-sizeauto auto;
        background-attachmentscroll;
        background-colortransparent;
        background-imageurl("https://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/11494032?profile=original");
        background-repeatno-repeat;
        padding-bottom3px;
        padding-left6px;
        padding-right21px;
        padding-top3px;
    }

    This is how mine looks now.

      Lol, I was thinking I should have done that! Nice work!
      • Thanks, but it was really your idea that I borrowed. I just made a few adjustments to it.

        Have a great day!

    • hmm I tried doing the code for the new message and for the new friend requests and added them to "custom code" but nothing worked. am I doing something wrong? :( Thanks!

  • Mark,

    Where exactly do you place this code on the site?

    Angela

    • Put it in the ÄDD CUSTOM CSS box in the advanced tab of the design studio.
      • Cherry,

        One side says "LESS Variables" and the other "CSS Styles".  Are you referring to "CSS Styles" when you say ADD CUSTOM CSS are should code be adding in Analytics?

        Angela

        • Sorry I"m just getting back to you.

          Go to appearance/advanced/ then you will see the box that says "add custom css". It is before you open the developer mode.
