The email I received from Google: Chrome will show security warnings on http://www.usfra.org To owner of http://www.usfra.org, Starting October 2017, Chrome (version 62) will show a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form on an HTTP page, and for all HTTP pages in Incognito mode. The following URLs on your site include text input fields (such as < input type="text" > or < input type="email" >) that will trigger the new Chrome warning. Review these examples to see where these warnings will appear, so that you can take action to help protect users’ data. This list is not exhaustive. http://www.usfra.org/ http://www.usfra.org/page/american-forces-information-service The new warning is part of a long term plan to mark all pages served over HTTP as “not secure”. Here’s how to fix this problem: Migrate to HTTPS To prevent the “Not Secure” notification from appearing when Chrome users visit your site, only collect user input data on pages served using HTTPS. • Every API LINK has http, so it is UNSECURED!!! This a big problem, nun of my codes are working, because of this api problem.... Well the ones that are using a api link from Ning... With all browsers....

    • Hi George,

I have just checked your network, basically, what I have noticed, some of the scripts were blocked as you are using bit.ly to shorten the link itself, please try to add "s" manually to the links you are using, that should work for bit.ly, or you can call it indirectly starting the link in your code with // instead of http:// (basically just by removing http). The same approach would work for the files located on api.ning.com, as they are already available by the https links, it would be necessary to change the link in the code you are using, and after they would work without making console "scream" about not secure connections. Also, when you are making such changes please make sure that you are removing the port as well.

      Hope this helps.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Thank you, Kyryl!! :)

I knew the bit-ly links were causing an issue and I did try to remove the HTTP from the API links, which didn't help at first, but once I removed the port 80 from the links, it all started working. :-)

This fix works perfectly. The only problem is now I'm going to spend days going to all the networks I am an administrator on, just to replace links, let alone all the tips here on creators. :-(

If anyone has this problem just change your links from this
        http//api.ning.com:80/
        To this   //api.ning.com/

Thank you again, you have a wonderful day.

        • Hi George,

I'm really sorry that https is causing such issues for you, but hey right now members won't be disturbed with warning messages from browsers and I think that worth it. By the way, https is coming for 2.0 networks in September this year, so in order to prevent such issue to happen there as well, I would suggest changing the links there as well to indirect ones.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to help you with changing all the links on the network where you are admin, but as I'm admin here on creators I can help you with changes to the code that you have posted in your tips, but I cannot do it without your permission (physically I can but I don't think it's ethical). So if you need any help in that just let me know, and I'll be glad to assist you.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.

          • Oh my, that's so very nice of you to offer, but I'm sure you have much better things to do besides altering links. :-)

Thank you for the heads up on the 2.0 network, I'm going to message a few of my friends and give them a heads up about the change coming in September.

Kyryl, just to let you know, I think you're awesome! ;)
You have a great evening, Kyryl. :)

            • Hi, George!

Thank you for the nice words :-)

If you change your mind regarding the help with the links altering, I think you know where to find me.

              Best wishes,

              Ning Team.

  • I kept my original site https://floridagrillin.ning.com and forwarded my GoDaddy domain FloridaGrillin.us to it.

That way my site remains https secure

    • You're also on Ning 3.0, my site is on Ning 2.0 and we are not going to have this feature for a while. I have a question, if you are using the Ning address, why are you paying for a domain?

      • So it will stay safe until I get an SSL Certificate to add to the site.

  • Hi there!

As far as I know, the page would be marked as insecure just near the address bar. Here is how it would look like.

3239910?profile=originalBasically, Google already marking each page without https encryption as insecure, however, upcoming changes would be more noticeable for regular users, that's is for sure.

For the networks on 3.0 platform, I could just advise to switch back to the native *ning.com if you are using a custom domain name, till the procedure of migration to https for custom domain names would be ready. For the 2.0 platform, unfortunately, it would be necessary to wait till the developers would migrate all 2.0 networks to the https, but basically, I suppose it would be done the same way like it was for 3.0, the networks with native names would go first and then networks with custom domain names. At this point, I would suggest informing your members that the browsers could mark your site as insecure.

Also, I have brought the attention of the management to this post, to make sure that they are aware of the warnings that you have been receiving from google.

    Best regards,

    Ning Team.
