  • I think that all depends on the type of network you have.  Some networks have a niche to where its pretty much automatic.  But Keeping members engage is a difficult thing in general.  People lose interest over time.  We try to run promotions and have good content within the site.  Good content = discovery/discussions
  • Ive found the blog feverbee.com very inspirational on this topic
  • After reading some of the post on Ning about engagement we did a serious over hall to our site and the way we interact with members. We have never had huge responses to our blog post but we manage to keep a steady number of people who join the site. out of 4,823 only 45 have left. We try to monitor the fake accounts and get rid of them so I'm comfortable with that number give or take 1-200.

We do have a Promotion called "Bump it or Dump it" where we feature up & coming artist and ask our members if they would bump it or dump it. That usually get's the most tractions. But because of the lack of interaction decided to move it to facebook and use the like and comment features it provides. It's much easier and they are all ready on Facebook.

I would love to get more interaction but it seems when Ning changed to the paid sites allot of people that had there own didn't upgrade and never came back.

  • i promo on Twitter, and i use the bulletins......the bulletins work well for me
  • I don't have a vast number of members on my site.  I try to run contests here and there mostly advertising on twitter and facebook.  I get some to sign up and comment on blogs or forums, but nothing consistent.  I run a sports based site which is a wide field and trying to generate consistent traffic whether it's new members or just consistent interaction, either posting, commenting or just talking to others on the site.  Any ideas?
