Currently trying to figure how to start a discussion thread while populating a title for the post and possibly body text all from an outside site. Any thoughts?

You can embed a page from another website using an iframe
<iframe width="100%" height="HEIGHT" scrolling="auto" frameborder="0" src="http://thewebsitename[dot]com"></iframe>
Adjust the "height" as needed, add your webpage URL and paste into a content box. o/c not good for SEO (iframes) but sometimes it's called for.
Kos has provided one very nice solution which may suit your needs.
Some other thoughts...
I think this may be able to be achieved with the Ning 3 API when (if?) it is released. This Ning feature was said to be Ning's top priority as the Exporting ability was supposed to be implemented by the API and that was said to be one of the next Ning features to be released..
In the meantime, there may be other ways to do what you want. I have done similar projects. If you care to discuss this further, message me with as much details as possible about what you hope to accomplish and I'll provide an analysis of what I think can be achieved, along with a ballpark fee.
