Is there a way to add information in the footer? I will have some sponsors and would like to add a logo or link there?

No need for any special codes, you can add what you need directly into the footer. You go to your site and pages, click on the page where you want to add the link etc and at the bottom or even the top footer boxs add what you want and it will show at the bottom of the page.
but if we want something unique and personal, as we see here on ning, it's not as easy as you say and you know it very well

Not about how to style it but could information be added there.
You can add just about any type of code here and even just text which will show up. Of course if you wanted to personalize the box itself then yes you could use css html etc. If you wanted a footer like ning with columns etc then you would add html here which will give you that.
