Invitation text and link missing

It's been nearly a month since I submitted a help ticket and no solutions to these two issues. Nothing but "you must wait"

The invitation link is missing on my site therefore no new members have been able to join my site for over a month this is not healthy for a membership site..we need new members to keep the site vital.  Also members aren't receiving notifications when a comment is posted and this is cutting down on engagement on my site.

Both of these issues are slowing my site down and it's very discouraging that it's taking so long to resolve these things.  I'm loosing money, while it's costing me monthly to wait for these issues to be solved.

If any of you have a solution to these - other than wait - I'd love to read it.

Thanks.

  • Hello!

Unfortunately, one possible workaround for such case didn't work, so we do not have any option other than to wait for the fix.

I have alerted regarding this case once again, and I apologize a lot for such issues.

    Best regards,

    The NING Team

Just because the invitation link is broken shouldn't keep people from signing up....  just send out the link to the Sign Up page and they should be able to do it...

    • How can she when the link won't work? I guess if the email address is in the system waiting to be accepted, you could always just create the account for that person. Then just email them their username and password if you don't have that many to do. Members could change this later.

      • Thanks Amber, I've been trying to think of a way to make this happen whle I WAIT for the fix that might never come.  So disappointed that 2.0 is so low on the list for fixes and changes.  Getting harder and harder to stay on NING.

        • I'm just greatful Ning is keeping 2.0 sites around. I remember before when Ning had said they wouldn't. It would've been devistating had they followed through with that plan.

If the links aren't working via the code base to check whether or not the invitation allows the person receiving the notification to sign up, then what I'd suggest, is make your site private, but anyone can join. Try downloading a weekly .csv file containing the list of your invited members. Then see if new people pending approval are on it. If so, let them in. If not, keep their account pending for awhile and see if anyone comes forward asking about someone in the pending approval list. As some people have multiple email addresses.

That way you still get to approve new accounts. Without having to go through the hassle of nobody new signing up. Anyone with an invite code may just be able to sign up again if you try turning the privacy option setting on and off a few times. as this may reset whatever process isn't working to verify email invitations. It may not work, but it's worth a shot.

          • Thanks for all those suggestions..I'll give it a try.  I'm glad to have the 2.0 too and these two issues are about the only ones I've had so, I'm grateful that it's been running well all these years.

            • Which does make it odd that they wouldn't be fixed right away. The old Ning team before Glam seemed to be the best at fixing simple issues like this. It's as if Ning won't even touch 2.0 sites anymore.

    • Hi

My site is private so I need for potential members to be vetted with the profile questions.  Apparently the link led them to the profile quesitons. Now we don't have the features we need to invite and vet members to the site.  Hope NING can fix this soon for me.

  • I just checked on an existing 2.0 network. the URL for the invite link is yourningsite.ning.com/main/invitation/new

I could be mistaken, but under member controls in admin control panel, you should be able to see a checkbox allowing members to invite people to the network. try unchecking it and rechecking it, all the while saving your changes a few times on that page. This could also help fix your invitation link issue.

As for comments, try unsubscribing and resubscribing to the piece of content you wish to follow. I know it may be difficult to manually do this for all members, but perhaps you made a change to the language editor causing formatting issues.

If not, and you're still facing problems, try asking ning to reset the cache on your site on their servers. Failing that, ask Ning to see if there's an email queue on your site awaiting to be sent out as if it's under a delay of some sort. If that doesn't work, try going into email settings and clicking those check boxes a few times in your control panel.

Something's got to give here and knowing how well 2.0 networks were built back in the day, making some quick changes on the fly ought to work well once things settle down. After you've made some changes.

If you're still having problems, try a theme reset. If that doesn't work, resubmit your features layout page. If that doesn't work, go to sign up sign in and make sure the controls are set for people to sign up and sign in to your network. And if that won't yield any results, ask Ning to install SSL for your network. that should update everything all at once if people are having trouble as the entirety of your site will be more secure. Failing that check, all I can think of is archiving your network and moving to Jamroom or Social Engine taking your content with you. But that's a last resort.

Whatever you do, I hope it works out for you.

    • Thanks again Amber  Ive checked and unchecked the invitation box..just won't work...once I save the tic in the box it disappears.  Not great with coding but it looks like all the info in the language editor is ok - but I wouldn't know that for sure. All try all these other thigs and see - hopefully NING will come to my rescure before I "mess" things up a bit more

      Appreciate your willingness to help.

      Pam
