Our site has been hijacked?

Apparently, our certificate has been hijacked. No browser will load our Ning 3.0 site, and the certificate shows as belonging to the African Kingdoms Federation. The site has been up and running for years now with very few problems. I think Ning was in the process of updating us to an SSL certificate.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Christopher Lyon

  • Ning customer service is on it, so hope to have some answers soon. This one is new to me.

    • Hi Christopher,

I'm 100% sure that your site hasn't been hijacked. recently our tech team has been installing SSL certificates for several networks, and I think that has simply provided yours with the wrong. I'm sorry for this and as I see our support agent has already addressed this issue to the right person.

      Best wishes,

      Ning team.

      • Thanks, Kyryl. I hope that's right. That would make sense. Our certificate showed as belonging to someone called "african kingdoms federation." Our uses also saw that through the warnings on their browsers. It feels like a hack, but it would be great if it's not.

        • Hi there!

As I see the issue has been resolved already. No worries, I have double checked it's not a hack, in the meantime or team trying to make the issuing of free SSL certificates for the custom domain automatic, so something could have gone wrong there and your network has been affected, we do apologize for these inconveniences.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.

          • Wait did you say custom domains?
            • Hi there!

Yes, that's right. We are testing the system on some networks, as you may see there are still several issues need fixing.

              Best regards,

              Ning Team.

  • Thanks, Kyryl. Yes, the issue is resolved and our SSL is now working just fine. Although our certificate showed as belonging to someone else, Ning assures me it was not a hack but an issue with the installation. I must say that Ning did a great job of responding to our issue, helping us with a workaround, and communicating when it was fixed. Very grateful for the help.

    Chris
