Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

This may have been obvious to some, but I just figured this out.

Once the new Beta Social Feed was released, I finally figured out a way to utilize Top News.

The options for Top News are: posts by Creators, posts by Featured Members or posts by Admins.   Well sometimes that should not be Top News, so I turned it off.

Then there is the new RSS Social Feed, well I didn't think I would use this either because I don't want outside feeds in my Network's Activity Feed, it doesn't make sense for my network.

So...I took MY Networks "Featured Discussions" RSS Feed and pasted into the Social Feed Beta, then turned top news back on, and it works great, and makes sense. http://network.girlriders.net/

I just wish that there was a way to turn off automatically adding Creators Posts to the feed, sometimes I post silly Status Updates that don't need to be "Top News".

  • You can change wording of "Top News" in the Activity feed by using your language editor if that is an option. Go to Language editor and search for Top News. The one you want will be the second Top News listed in the list of items that appear. I also do not like the label Top News, because most of it is not news at all. I tested it and it will change the language.

I still have not decided upon what language to replace Top News with. If anyone has any good ideas for a name for that activity feed stream, please share them.

    • I don't mind the wording, just needed to find the right contents, thanks though.

    This is a great idea!

The Top News was completely useless for us. We now use it to feed the latest activity from our very active groups.

    Multiple thanks =)

    • No RSS feed for you (and me), I am afraid, Diane.  Private only and main page only networks do not have  RSS feeds, because otherwise someone outside the network could pull information from inside to the outside, just by knowing the right URL ---which would not be good, so this is OK for me.

Still, we private guys are missing something here, because Katie's idea is really great.  What would be needed is a privacy protected feed.  A shame, but I am not holding my breath.

          • sorry Diane...but the sentiment is the same!
