I have a very large 2.0 community.
I once had paid access and when I set it up that time, I comped existing members.
Now a few years later, set up paid access again. But this time would like to ask all members to pay to enter/use. When you set up paid access, it does indicate all members will be asked to pay.
But doesn't work like that. All previously comped members are still comped.
And, there is no way to undo the comp that is set up to Lifetime on the paid members subscribers list. Actually no way to manage the members there at all.
Any way to do this?
I will phone and ask Ning to uncomp them on the backend but we know this takes ages .....
Thanks,
David

Ning is telling me that this is it and that I have to live with it. I find that unacceptable. Really looking for a way around this and / or hack.
I will still try to get them to change the database. We should have a priority, its making Ning $ too. It's just a mess how the Paid Access works in terms of an admin managing it. Especially when you have 10s of thousands of members.
Has anyone integrated Stripe payments on a community?
Hi David,
Unfortunately, something that you ask isn't possible. The members have paid for the life time membership and as the paywall cannot be removed and it's not possible to create two paywalls assigned to the same item, so the members who have paid for the lifetime membership on the network would have it and it doesn't matter how long ago they have paid, have been paywall deactivated o not they would have lifetime membership no matter what.
The only way to make the members pay for the usage of the network again is to remove the member from the network and only with the new account they would be able to make the payment for the membership.
Unfortunately, this is how paid access on Ning 2.0 works.
Thanks for understanding,
Best wishes,
Ning Team.
I've asked my developers to do a custom javascript stripe integration. Paid access is a total mess.
You have lists of members that can't be managed or even filtered. When you set up the paywall it clearly states existing members will be charged (but in my case aren't). Subscribers who purchased lifetime membership will always have that - that's not the issue. It is that whoever developed this and the database - didn't have any idea of what they were doing. But even now, it is just a question of allowing a new paywall to be created. Yet you can't nor will Ning do a little dev work to help a very large community generate income.
I'll also note that the members who upgraded during the two years I had Paid access turned off, still were comped for one year after they joined. So even that didn't work and I did nothing to comp them.
Ning has done nothing to improve Paid access in years. Despite it being a revenue channel where it should devote time to generate income. Bad business strategy, no, not bad, more than bad.
Kyryl it sounds like its a mess and your Developer will have his work cut out, repairing it
Deactivate Paywall Access is a must. Either from failed payments, customer refund, member breaking terms of service, or human error activating the incorrect paywalls manually, we need the ability to revoke specific paywall access to individual members. Hopefully this is amended in Ning 3 including the ability to transfer paid access records from Ning 2.
Hi Matt,
Sorry for the delayed reply, I have spent some time figuring out how paywalls would be working on paid access on 3.0 platform. Basically paid wall could be deactivated on the 2.0 as well but the logic prevents creating of several paywalls for one item regardless the previous paywall was deactivated. Because on 2.0 there is no way to change the duration of trial for the old paywall for existing members, so if it was activated again they would have trial once again etc. However such situations haven't stayed unnoticed and it would be possible to create several paywalls for the same item, but only one paywall could be active at the same time.
Best regards,
Ning Team.
