Text Editor Problems

Hello, I am getting a number of reports from my users with problems with the WYSIWYG editor - editor not showing, or menu bar not showing all options, or menu split into two lines where it wasn't before. Any help appreciated. Ning 2.

  • You're not alone in this. Members on my site have also stated this problem to me. It's been going on for a few days now.

    • Hi there!

I have checked your network as well, and haven't noticed any issues also, basically, the recommendations would be the same that I have mentioned in the first reply to Gavin. Hope it will help.

      Best regards,

      Ning team.

  • I know that Tinymce does offer both those options and more as plugins.

Here's an article on how to enable font sizing.

Now if the buttons don't look right, try exploring with new themes. Keep in mind ad block code may interfere with the loading of javascript and css codes belonging to the editor.

Now configure your options. This should fix the multiple line issue.

I found all this by reading the documentation.

    • Hi there!

Yes, this documentation is applicable, however, I haven't found a way how the plugins could be activated without the reinitiation of the tinymce editor. Since the plugins are getting reinitiated you are losing the ability to add pictures videos etc into the body of the comment/post as those buttons have been written as the custom once and only the design has been taken from the docs of the tinymce. Well if you are ok with that the docs could be used to modify the look of the editor.

Also, I have tried to develop the other solution, since the buttons are getting lost during the initiation, I have wanted to use the buttons of the HTML view which are imply hidden on the page until the HTML button clicked. That all looked good until I have noticed the trouble with the initiation, sometimes it's getting initiated after original look has been processed by the system and sometimes before, and this is provoking the cases when you are not getting the settings of the editor that you have tried to apply using custom code.

If you find the way to initiate the new settings in time, then those docs could be used to modify the set of the plugins, otherwise, the docs simply are not applicable.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • This would depend on several factors. Mainly two inparticular.

The first being where the code exists on the page. Loading the basic editor first before any custom code, would obviously load the basic functionality before any custom plugins or design changes. However if the custom code isn't loading at all, then this would indicate the plugins aren't reaching the original code base. If you had a single file that loaded the necessary compose.json file for the editor to appear, and in that you contained the code to load both the custom code and the plugins, then I could see this working.

for example, this demo page shows all the plugins and the editor loading simultaneously.

        https://www.tinymce.com/docs/demo/full-featured/

Here's another example of how the editor would load with custom plugins added.

        https://demo.socialengine.com/admin/announcement/manage/create

The second option is to take a look at a bug found on Tinymce itself referring to plugins not loading at all.

        https://community.tinymce.com/communityQuestion?id=9066100000096vFAAQ

there is no reference to loading prior or past the time the main editor loads, but you can see plugins aren't visible as buttons.

This example displays all plugins that come with TinyMCE Cloud's premium subscriptions.
        • I found more documentation relating to troubleshooting this.

        • Hi there!

There is no issue with adding of the custom plugins, the problem is that the plugins that would be shown could be determined only when tinymce is getting initiated (I'm not talking about the library loading), and there is no way to add any other plugins after the initiation.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.

          • this seems like normal behavior. So making sure tinymce gets called as soon as possible may make the plugins load in time as the rest of the page loads. in other words, putting the script to call the editor as close to the top of the page as you can may fix the timing problem.

If the plugins won't load after tinymce gets loaded, yet the plugins are added into Tinymce with no problem, then it seems as though they aren't being shown, visible, on the front end even though they are added.

As crazy as it sounds, Tinymce support may be able to look into this case further as they developed the wyciwyg editor and the way in which it's plugins are called. So contacting them could solve this problem more effectively.

            • Hi there!

Probably yes, however, unfortunately, placing the code that reinitiates plugins in tinymce in the head section ain't possible for the Ning 2.0 (without developers access I mean). Since the custom code section is inserting all the script at the end of the page.

I have wanted basically develop the workaround for creators from 2.0 especially as some of them were not satisfied with the fact that there is no way to change font color and font family anymore. Also, the workaround should be easy to implement so they could do this by themselves, that means they should be able to use the functionality of the network they are aware of and have access to.

              Best regards,

              Ning Team.
