I am interested in being able to tag Ning content with a set of standardized tags (i.e. from a standardized vocabulary/taxonomy). A standardized vocabulary would allow simililar content to be tagged consistently. Currently, differences in free-text user defined tags prevent this. For example, 'Book', 'Novel', 'Paperback', 'Hardcover', etc. could probably be tagged with a single tag, depending on the context. Misspellings and regional spelling differences (UK/Canada vs. US) are also problems with free text tagging. This means that when a tag hyperlink is clicked, all relevant content will probably not be displayed.
I am assuming there is no way to apply standardized tags (with an admin defined vocabulary) in the current Ning 3 framework?
And is there any way to use tags in user profiles?
Best regards,
David

Hi there!
Unfortunately, the standard tools of Ning don't allow to standardize tags. However, this task could be accomplished with the custom js script. If I would have some spare time I'll try to create one for you and post it here on creators.
Also, the user profiles cannot be tag :-(
Best regards,
Ning team.
P.S. Just an idea, you can use categories as the standard tags, just rename them and hide the tag field with teh CSS, and the categories would look like the standardized tags. However, it's gonna work only in case if you don't use categories for the other purpose.
