NC for Hire

A few days ago, I started to write a post about a workaround that I found for embedding individual facebook posts into your site.  However, I decided to wait and I am glad I did because Facebook released the official method of embedding facebook content into websites.

Add This to your Custom Code (without the numbers)

  1. <div id="fb-root"></div>
  2. <script>
  3. (function(d, s, id) {
  4. var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
  5. if (d.getElementById(id))
  6. return;
  7. js = d.createElement(s);
  8. js.id = id;
  9. js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1";
  10. fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
  11. }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
  12. </script>

Now go to the place you want to add the Facebook Content and add this in HTML mode:

<div id="fb-root"></div>

<div class="fb-post" data-href="YOUR_URL_HERE"></div>

 Replace the red code with the URL of the post you want to embed.

Proof of concept on Ning 3.0 Network:

Creating an Embedded Facebook Post

To embed a post, first check if the post is public by hovering over the audience selector (you'll see a globe icon). Only public posts from Facebook Pages and profiles can be embedded.

If the post is public, click on the icon that appears in the top right corner of the post on Facebook:

Choose 'Embed Post' from the drop down menu that appears. You will see a dialog appear with the code to embed your post in it:

I don't know about you, but this is a terrific tool for building and cross promoting content on a social network.

Check out their best practices for finding public posts to embed here.

Thanks to Amit for helping me understand how the code breaks down.

Let me know if you need help getting it working or with your network in general.  Enjoy!

  • Hmmm. This is interesting. I don't see those options on any post. Not mine or others, and the posts are public. The only options I am offered are "Follow Post" and "I don't want to see this". Funny thing is, I never saw any of those options before, because I never used that drop down menu.

    Maybe Facebook hasn't rolled out this feature to everyone?

      that is why i pointed to the workaround...

      • Right! So you did! LOL

        In my defense (can't speak for anyone else), I never really paid attention to Facebook content urls. For the first time, I just now took a good look.

        Thank you, J.

  • Same here.  I no longer have those options.  Just "follow post" or "I don't want to see this"

    • Hey Bekah.

      I just read this article that says the feature will be slowly rolled out to users, so who knows when the rest of us will get it. Normally I get new features the same day they're released, but I guess I'm on the waiting list this time. Haha!

    works so well..

  • Your post is confusing. Are we coping & pasting the embed code from the Facebook post drop down to our Ning site or do we past the html code that you red highlighted to our Ning site? Which one???

    • btw- I tried both and neither worked. Can this work in Ning 2.0?

  • tried but with no result in a text box in the home page

    I inserted this in the private code

       <div id="fb-root"></div>
        <script>
        (function(d, s, id) {
        var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
        if (d.getElementById(id))
        return;
        js = d.createElement(s);
        js.id = id;
        js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1";
        fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
        }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
        </script>

    amd this in the box

    <div id="fb-root"></div>
    <div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/bolobazzalive.emilia/posts/10201689198408434" data-width="100€"></div>

    with no relsults
